Bosch DDS180-02 18-Volt Compact Tough Drill Driver with 2 1.3Ah Batteries

Ready for all materials from wood to metal, the compact yet powerful Bosch DDS180-02 Compact Tough 18-volt lithium-ion 1/2-inch drill/driver's 7-inch head length is the smallest in its class, yet it delivers top heavy-duty drilling performance. It works with all Bosch 18-volt lithium-ion batteries, and this kit includes two 1.3 Ah Slim Pack batteries to help keep things light.

Compact Tough Slim Pack

Fast Speeds, High Torque, and Durable Construction

The DDS180-02 is optimized to worke at two speeds--one for high-torque applications (0-500 RPM) and one for high-speed applications (1,700 RPM)--and it provides a maximum of 600 inch-pounds of torque. The 4-pole open-frame motor and newly developed gearbox provide exceptional power for such a compact drill/driver. The 18+1 clutch settings included in this Compact Tough model and a variable-speed trigger help you match the best speed to the job, so you can achieve precise results. It can drive 500 screws per charge using the BAT619G 3.0 Ah HC battery (not included).

Balanced Design and Easy Bit Changes

This drill/driver's Durashield housing is constructed with ABS/nylon composite, which makes the housing flexible on impact. Unlike competitive tools, which use a conventional plastic housing, Durashield will not crack and can easily withstand 10-foot drops.
The ergonomically designed handle and soft-grip wrapped housing offer a comfortable fit for extended working time. The DDS180-02 comes complete with a single-sleeve 1/2-inch auto-lock chuck for one-handed bit changes, as well as increased drill-bit capacity for versatility. And for even greater convenience, LEDs provide illumination when you are working in dark or enclosed areas.

Flexible Power System

Like all tools in Bosch's 18-volt line, this drill/driver can be used with either a 1.3 Ah Slim Pack battery (model BAT609), a 2.6-Ah Fat Pack battery (model BAT618), or a 3.0 Ah Fat Pack HC batter (model BAT619G). If you're looking for a lightweight option, the Slim Pack is the perfect choice. If longer runtime is what you need, the Fat Pack will do the job.

ProVantage Guarantee

The DDS180-02 comes with the ProVantage three-year protection plan, which guarantees two years of battery protection and one year of tool protection. Under this plan, you can receive two years of free battery replacements, tool replacement for one year, and a free tool repair package for the second and third years.

Bosch CLPK232-181 18V Max 2-Tool Combo Kit

Bosch tools are made to endure punishment at the job site, though, so unless the carton is badly damaged it would be difficult to damage the drill & driver in shipping.

Both the drill and impact driver are built with the expected Bosch quality. They are lightweight but solidly built. You can tell by the feel that these are quality tools and not the cheap stuff you might find at Wal-Mart. Both the drill and driver have excellent torque to drive any screw or bolt you might want to use. Both have variable speed, and the drill has two speed settings along with the usual wide variety of torque settings. The impact driver has a small LED light near the tip to aid visibility. The drill has an LED light, too, but it is oddly placed at the top of the base where the battery attaches. It seems to direct light where it needs to be, but it just seems like a very odd location to put the light source. Included with the kit are belt clips that can be attached to the drill & driver and a couple of Phillips screwdriver bits. Bosch makes great drill and driver bits, and it would have been a welcome addition to have a bit set included, but in fairness most other drill/driver sets do not come with bits either.

One nice thing that is not pointed out on the product advertising is the batteries are 18 volt Lithium Ion batteries. This is a huge plus as the Li-Ion batteries are smaller, lighter, hold a charge much better than NiCad batteries, and will not develop a charge "memory." You do not need to drain these batteries completely before charging. The estimated 6 hour battery life is far superior to a similarly priced Makita 18 volt Li-Ion drill/driver set I own that has only 1-1/2 hour battery life. Even better, both included batteries have an LED charge indicator that allows you to tell at a glance how much charge is left. Very cool. When my set arrived I charged both batteries right away with the included charger. Each one took only 30 minutes to fully charge. Compared with the hour or longer that my other NiCad cordless tools require to charge this is a real time-saver.

In summary, the Bosch CLPK232-181 18V Max 2-Tool Combo Kit would be a great set of cordless drill and impact drivers to have for homeowners and construction workers alike. The higher price point compared with other similar sets is justified by the Lithium Ion batteries (cheaper sets will likely have NiCad batteries). You are getting a great set of tools for the price and you will never go wrong with Bosch quality.
